The 2026 China-International Joyful Yuanxiao (Lantern Festival) Fun Fair was held on the evening of March 3, 2026 (the 15th day of the first lunar month) in Yangshuo County. With the theme "Landscape Embraces the World, Celebrating Yuanxiao Festival Together," the main venue was located on Binjiang Road, and a secondary venue was set up at the Cultural Square near the former residence where Dr. Sun Yat-sen once stayed. County leaders, including Sun Guoliang, Huang Xiaoxue, Chen Qingwu, and Zeng Jiegang, attended the event. They visited the Tangyuan (sweet rice ball) distribution point to offer warm Tangyuan to residents and tourists, explored the local products fair to learn about the promotion of agricultural, cultural, and tourism products, and went to the Cultural Square to watch a Caiqiao (local opera) performance and participate in a lantern riddle game. They celebrated the Yuanxiao Festival with Chinese and international guests, conveying festive blessings.

The following video captures a heartwarming and joyful moment when Sun Guoliang, Party secretary of the Yangshuo County Committee, distributed Tangyuan to Chinese and international friends on the street and engaged in an English conversation with foreign guests. It once again demonstrates that foreign languages serve as a colorful ribbon and a bridge connecting the world and promoting exchanges between China and other countries.

As night fell, the eye-dotting ceremony for the dragon and lion took place at Longtoushan Pier. Following this, a parade featuring the Jinbao Middle School Teachers and Students Dragon and Lion Team, along with Chinese and international tourists, wound its way along the main route of West Street. The agile dragons and lions meandered through the ancient alleyways, their vibrant colors complementing the festive lanterns along the path. This created a flowing spectacle of "Dragons Roaming the Landscape, Lanterns Reflecting Global Friendship," showcasing the charm of traditional folk customs and the vibrant energy of international interaction. Jiang Tengfei, a tourist from Mexico, said, "I think these activities are fantastic. I really enjoy the dragon and lion dances." Ivan Ye, a Chinese-Canadian visitor, exclaimed excitedly, "This event is so lively, with so many people on the streets. I've never seen such a bustling scene before."

Five major attractions made the fun fair a resounding success. A themed lantern corridor at the main venue on Binjiang Road stretched from the Former Residence of Xu Beihong to cultural landmarks like Chiang Kai-shek's temporary lodging. Lanterns celebrating Yangshuo's folk customs, reunion, and good fortune lit up the night, creating a fantastic festive vibe. At a Tangyuan (sweet rice ball) distribution site hosted by 20 top local restaurants and boutique B&Bs, the sweet treats were cooked fresh on the spot using traditional large iron woks. More than 10,000 bowls were given away for free, offering both international and domestic guests a taste of Chinese warmth and togetherness in every soft and sweet bite. "Our kumquat-flavored Tangyuan were a massive hit at last year's Lantern Festival event, so we brought them back again this year, and the feedback has been wonderful," said Li Yonghong, General Manager of Guangxi Sister Xie Catering Co., Ltd.

The bilingual lantern riddle gathering at the secondary venue, the Cultural Square near Dr. Sun Yat-sen's former residence, became a highlight of cultural exchange. The riddles incorporated three main elements: Yangshuo's local scenery and products, Chinese and international cultures, and themes of reunion and good fortune. The bilingual riddles were designed to be both fun and informative, with winners able to exchange their answers for special Yangshuo souvenir gifts. Amidst the lanterns and riddles, participants experienced a dialogue and resonance between Chinese and foreign cultures. Tianbao, a tourist from the Netherlands, said happily, "This is my first time seeing such an event in China, and I find it absolutely amazing."

At the intersection of Diecui Road and Binjiang Road, the "Yangshuo Landscape Gift · Local Flavors & Goodies Market" brought together three main sections: high-quality agricultural products, specialty souvenirs, and interactive cultural fusion zones. Local specialties such as Yangshuo kumquats, Qixianfeng Cuiyu tea, and Chuaitang handmade crispy candy were showcased and sold. Intangible Cultural Heritage Caiqiao opera performers gave live demonstrations and invited tourists to join them on stage, enriching the nighttime experience and allowing Chinese and international visitors to intimately appreciate the unique charm of Yangshuo's agricultural, cultural, and tourism integration. Along Binjiang Road, fun games like ring toss, pitch-pot, and shaky ball games attracted many residents and tourists eager to participate. Those who completed the challenges could receive cultural and creative gifts as well as local agricultural products, with laughter and joy filling the air. Ms. Li, a tourist from Shanxi Province, said, "This is my first time celebrating the Yuanxiao Festival in Yangshuo. The people here are exceptionally warm and hospitable. I'm so happy. This is the happiest Yuanxiao Festival I've ever had."

This Yuanxiao Festival fun fair saw Yangshuo use the traditional festival as a link, deeply integrating its landscape scenery, folk culture, and international elements. It not only provided an immersive Yuanxiao cultural experience for Chinese and international tourists and local residents but also built a bridge for cultural exchange between China and other countries. The event further highlighted the unique charm of Yangshuo's integrated cultural and tourism development, helped enhance the influence of the Yangshuo cultural tourism brand, and promoted the distribution of characteristic rural products, contributing to increased income for local farmers. It added a significant and vibrant chapter to the goals of "Building a Civilized China in the Scenic Landscape of Yangshuo," "Constructing the Yangshuo Pioneer Zone to Contribute to the World Tourism City of Guilin," and optimizing the local tourism business environment.
